Forget New Years Resolutions – Try my 25 for 2025 instead

In this blog post, Adele shares her thoughts on ditching the NY resolutions and utilising a different technique

Let’s ditch the New Year resolutions and try my ’25 for 2025′ instead?

Have you ever found New Years resolutions jarring? I know I have and do.
Resolutions always focus on wishing for and wanting. It’s much more beneficial  to focus on gratitude for what you have; to celebrate and honour what you already have within you. In its most basic form and in this beautifully simplistic yet highly powerful mantra we can tap into this sentiment through repeating out loud or in the minds eye:

“I am enough”

This mantra helps to integrate within that no striving is needed, no pushing, no shoulds, no aspirations are needed.
Instead it reminds us that you are enough, just as you are.
Even as I write this it makes my body (and mind) take a huge sigh of relief.
My shoulders drop and melt as a weight is lifted.
Ahhhhh yes, I’m reminded that I am enough just as I am.
As are you my friend.

You may simply move forward with the above mantra and nothing more. Result!
However you may like to enjoy doing the ’25 for 2025′ idea which involves a little bit of reflection time alongside putting some thoughts down on paper as to what you’d like more of in 2025. This is a great technique for me as I fly through life at a pace (don’t we all!) and it forces me to take stock of all the wonderful things that have happened in the past year (little and big they’re all important) along with all the not-so good moments which I call my ‘learnings’ and I gather that insight to inform how I move through my 2025. If that sparks your interest read on…

How to do your ’25 for 2025′

STEP 1: You spend a little bit of time reflecting on 2024. This can bring up emotion and so before you begin give yourself the role of an unemotional auditor, and simply list the good, the bad, the key moments and experiences of the year.

STEP 2: You’re using your Pause & Reflect list to gather your essential insight. Categorise the key actions, activities, experiences. With your Sherlock Holmes hat on you’re looking to identify the things that felt really good this past year, the things that you did which made your heart sing, that aligned with your life purpose. Don’t just look at the big things, some of the small and subtle actions are just as important and special. You’re also identifying what you would do differently, what you wouldn’t repeat. You might observe that certain actions / people / behaviours drained your energy or clashed with your values. You’re capturing this within your insights list.

STEP 3: The fun bit: create your 25 for 2025 list! Instructions below.

How to create a 25 for 2025 list?

OK so you’ve got this far, the hard work is done. This final technique becomes a little super power for you as it hones you into what really is important for you. It keeps you on track throughout the year as you know that this list is aligned to your insight. It’s aligned to what will make you feel good, boost your vitality, connect with your purpose and keep you on the right path this year.
Here’s what you do:
  1. From your insight list: Start to create a list of what you want to ensure you do and experience in 2025
  2. Don’t deprioritise the small stuff: For example on my list has to be getting out in nature for a walk at least 5 times a week. this is essential for my mental health and wellbeing and has to be on my list!
  3. It’s not a performance: This list is not for anyone else. You’re not trying to impress anyone, out-do anyone. Nothing about yoga or the techniques I share with you are ever about performance. This is about listening in to your heart and making that unique list that connects to you and only you.
  4. Less is more: Obviously I’m asking you to write 25 things on your list. But we’re not here to overfill your to do list. The things you add on here should be the things that rejuvenate you and bring you home to you.
  5. To share or not to share: I’ll be sharing my ’25 for 2025′ on my social media for students, friends and family to see. I’m happy to share because I often find it inspires others to give this kind of technique a try. It can inspire someone to let go of the dreaded NY resolutions! And it might just help someone to slow down, pause, reflect and create their own 25 for 2025. It’s entirely your choice to share or not to share.
  6. If you do share: please TAG ME into your post as I’d love to see your 25 for 2025 list!

So what are you waiting for – get the kettle on and make a nice hot drink; create a nice quiet space without distractions; get the pen and paper out and create your wonderfully unique 25 for 2025 list. Be ready to enjoy an abundance of benefits thereon after!
